AMAZIGH CULTURAL TOURS

After 20 years working in public galleries in Australia as a curator, Rita took to traveling and somehow became entangled in Morocco!

Initially offering an annual Drawing Tour in 2011 & 2012, AMAZIGH CULTURAL TOURS was established in 2013 and now offers a range of Specialist Art Tours, where participants embark on a two week adventure that has Arts and Culture as the main focus and a flexible art program suitable for all skill levels from beginners to advanced.

Working with selected artists who have a culturally sensitive approach to place and a specialist media or area of practice ACT provides a focus for a travel experience with a difference.

Traveling with a small group of like-minded people the focus is on art skills, knowledge and practice in PAINTING, DRAWING. PRINTMAKING, PHOTOGRAPHY, JEWELLERY, TEXTILES and more, together with a broader engagement with the ancient Indigenous Amazigh (Berber) culture of Morocco – exploring the heritage, art, craft, music, food, spirituality, subsistence farming and nomadic lifestyle that has endured throughout the years.

A changing Program with Guest Artists including; Dianne Fogwell, Silvi Glattauer, Elisabeth Cummings, Anne Zahalka, Dore Stockhausen & Marcus Foley, Wendy Sharpe, Susan Purdy , Martin King , Jude Rae, Jen Kingwell, Gloria Loughman, Sue Benner, Hollis Chatelain, Bryan Dawe, Victoria Findlay Wolfe and more, offer a range of options!

The tours begin in the colourful Medina of Marrakech then take a route across the famous Tizi n’Tichka Atlas Mountains pass through traditional Amazigh (Berber) villages to the sand dunes of the Sahara.

The artworks created en route trace an experience in space and time – a record of your journey!
